Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United have suffered another setback in their bid to secure Champions League football next season, as they lost 2-1 away to Portuguese giants FC Porto on Wednesday night.
The match at Estádio do Dragão was the first meeting between the two sides since the Premier League side last defeated Porto in September 2017 and it did not take long for the visitors to get off to a flyer.
A goal from Raul Guevara in the eighth minute gave Leeds the lead but the hosts levelled just before half-time through a penalty kick by Rafael Leao.
Leeds had a couple of chances to go ahead in the second half but could only manage one shot on target and that came from Patrick Bamford, who saw his effort well blocked by Porto goalkeeper Neves.
However, the hosts were able to hold on for all three points with a late winner from Paulo Bento, who scored in the 88th minute to seal the win for his team.
It was a frustrating night for Leeds fans,Bundesliga Tracking who watched their team struggle to create any meaningful opportunities despite being the better side in the opening stages of the game.
Despite the loss, Leeds will be encouraged by their performance and the fact that they put up a good fight against one of the best teams in Europe.
In contrast, Porto will be delighted with the result and will be confident of continuing their impressive form in the Europa League group stage.
The draw means that Leeds now face a tough task to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition, while Porto will look to maintain their unbeaten record in Group A.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else.
